Life the way I want it…
"I joined because I liked the concept. I wanted to stay in my own home. I didn't want to live some place where I had to dinner at 5 o'clock. I want dinner when I want it—after I watch Jim Lehrer on PBS NewsHour. Because of my many positive experiences I'm trying to interest others in joining North Shore Village. It has so much to offer right now. There's no reason to wait until you 'need' it." Ruth E.

Rides to appointments…

"How wonderful it was for [Volunteer] to come and take me to the doctor this morning. She was most courteous and kind. I'm so glad I got in contact with your group. You are one in a million." V.C.

"Also a volunteer, she drove me to my appointment, waited for me and drove me back home. I wish I could adequately express to you how reassuring it is to have access to the kinds of support and help North Shore Village provides. It transforms a cold and unconcerned city into a caring community."

Referrals to Service Providers...
"I had to build an entirely new network of carpenters, electricians, doctors, dentists, physical therapists, friends –– it was endless. I heard about North Shore Village, but being stubbornly independent, assumed I could "do it on my own." Besides, I was a little vague about what the organization might offer or which groups I might participate in and possibly make a contribution. But while I had met many lovely and friendly people in Evanston, I was still struggling with day to day practical matters. Finally, several months ago, I decided to give the Village a try. Almost immediately, I received an invitation to participate in an event that highlighted writers in North Shore Village. I signed up and was among those given the opportunity to present our published works to a large and receptive audience. Prior to the main event, the writers met for lunch, and enjoyed getting to know one another. It was delightful and worthwhile initiation. I soon discovered a number of other groups that were available at North Shore Village that interested me. Also I learned that they could recommend carpenters, electricians, doctors, dentists, physical therapists, and I wondered why I hadn't taken advantage of this valuable resource sooner." Assistance with small tasks…
"[Volunteer] picked me up to take me for my doctor's appointment. She was on time, waited over an hour at doctor's office and brought me home. She was so kind and considerate. How lucky to be a member of The Village!" Charlotte C.

"[Volunteer] fixed my stereo completely with all the components. He knew exactly what, where, and how to! So very impressed and so grateful to have all the components to use again! Bravo Village! Thank you!" Charlotte C.

Access to other resources…
"(…the Boy Scouts)…came after the Christmas snowfall and made an amazingly clear pathway for me to get to my garage. I'm eternally grateful." Liane C.
